Can we please add a facing operation for the router bed, for facing stock.
and face the spoil board.
This is in for v2.4.7. Here's what you're getting:
Face operation (facing stock)
A new Face operation in the Router workspace — assign it to a layer and it faces inside the closed outlines, keeping any holes as islands. Two styles: a raster zig-zag (direction, pass angle, stepover, optional perimeter pass, pecking) or the same Dynamic spiral clearing Pocket uses for hogging proud stock. The cutter overhangs the edge by half its diameter by default so no ridge is left at the boundary, and new ops default to a light 0.020" skim. Zig-zag facing joins the rows with smooth tangent arcs instead of sharp corners, so the machine carries its speed through the turns and the finish shows no dwell marks — that one landed in the Mill workspace's Face operation too.
Facing tool (facing the spoilboard)
There's also a new Facing tool in the Router toolbar (shortcut G) built for exactly what you asked — surfacing the spoilboard without importing any geometry. Three ways to pick the area:
Committing drops a facing region onto the sheet with its Face operation already created — feeds, style, stepover, and depths all edit in Operation Parameters like every other operation, and it previews, simulates, and posts like any toolpath. The region draws as a dashed outline, never auto-nests, never throws collision warnings against parts sitting on top of it, and is allowed to run past the sheet.
Thanks for the request Scott.
