Chamfer

At a glance

Chamfer bevels the edges of a solid body at a constant setback — the standard edge-break and lead-in treatment. Selection works exactly like Fillet: click an edge to take the whole tangent-connected chain, Shift+Click for a single edge, and keep picking to accumulate edges from any faces on the body before committing everything as one feature.

Distance

The Distance field sets the same setback on both faces meeting at the edge, so a square corner gets a clean 45° bevel. It accepts expressions and units (0.03in, 1mm), honors your preferred units, and the last value is remembered across sessions.

Tips

  • Hover before you click — the highlight shows the exact chain a click will add, so you can tell a full-loop pick from a single edge at a glance.
  • Chamfers live in the feature history: edit the feature later to change the distance and the part rebuilds.
  • A small chamfer on a hole's rim models the countersink a deburring bit leaves — useful when the 3D model feeds documentation or 3D-printed check fixtures.
